Apprentice Support Worker – I am currently working through a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in conjunction with working for Edge.
“To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable” – Ludwig van Beethoven.
Most embarrassing thing about me
I am particularly good at tripping over things.
Nobody knows about me
I hate sparkling water.
Weirdest thing about you
I am a furry – that is a person who is interested in the concept of anthropomorphic or human-like animals to the point that they enjoy games, art, videos and other media that feature these kinds of characters. Some even go as far as to imagine themselves as one of these animal/human hybrid characters through creating what’s known as a ‘fursona’, which is an anthropomorphic animal version of themselves. Popular examples of media which includes anthropomorphic or furry characters include Robin Hood, Zootopia, Beastars, Ratchet and Clank and Starfox.
This would probably have to be graduating from university with a first-class honour’s degree in popular music.
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do at Edge, what would it be?
I, along with my colleagues, support autistic people to do a variety of cool and interesting things and meet their own personal goals.
Fun fact about me
I am an occasional practitioner of parkour – a physical discipline which involves navigating a range of natural obstacles from point A to point B.
Credentials prior to working with Edge
Working for Edge is my exposure to working in the social services and care sector, so a lot of it is quite new for me and I am learning a lot as I go. Other than that, I am knowledgeable about music (having studied it at uni) and autism thanks to my own diagnosis of ASD back in 2019.
Favourite place in the world
Exceedingly difficult to pick but I will go with Thailand.
What do you like about working with Edge
In my short time working for Edge, I have found that it is never boring, except when doing paperwork (sorry David, it isn’t for everyone XD). I love how varied each shift is and how they tend to be quite active.
What I enjoy doing outside of work
I am a musician, I play in 2 different bands and my main hobby outside of work is playing, writing, and listening to music. I also enjoy a chill night in and a few drinks with friends while watching a movie, tv or some anime.
Makes me different
I feel like I am still finding my niche when it comes to support work. Right now, a big part of the way I work with clients is informed by observation of my more senior and experienced colleagues.
