The Story So Far
We truly believe that all kinds of adventures should be available to EVERYONE, regardless of their situation (you’ll not be surprised to hear we’re big on accessibility here at Edge!). That’s why we have teamed up with Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK), to open up the world of skiing and snowsports to autistic and learning disabled young adults in Edinburgh, Musselburgh, and beyond!
We run regular weekly Ski Club Sessions, in partnership with DSUK that let individuals who have additional needs experience the slopes and work towards recognised accreditations. Club sessions are held on Monday evenings at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend and are fully supported by TeamEdge support staff along with the expert guidance from DSUK’s highly qualified instructors, Shaun, Kat and Alexa.
Edge Ski Club
Our Ski Club sessions are for all experience levels, whether you have never been on skis before or you’re a pro that’s happy tackling red runs, everyone is welcome. Our adventurous skiers are of a mixture of abilities but the 2 things that are guaranteed – Progress & Fun!
Don’t just take our word for it, the technical progress is measurable, much like the smiles on those faces! Everyone that participates in the ski club sessions works towards their Snowlife Ski Awards. The official DSUK accreditation levels mark each milestone achieved in relation to skiing technique and technical knowledge.
We are blown away by the speed at which progress is made in every block of sessions we have run. We definitely have a few ski champs in the making and can’t wait to see their skills develop even further. The flexibility and adaptability of the learning format used by DSUK mean everyone can develop at their own pace and move to the next level when they are ready.
Why did we decide to work with DSUK? It wasn’t a difficult choice.
Disability Snowsport UK works in partnership with snow domes and slopes across the UK to offer lessons and groups that provide skiing and snowboarding for everyone, regardless of disability, injury or experience. Their specially trained instructors support learning in a way that is right for our clients and takes pace, environment and any communication needs into account.
DSUK has a very similar philosophy to Edge. They believe every skier and snowboarder is unique. Their instructors will work with individuals to find the best way to get them on the slopes and develop their skills and confidence, and simply have fun.
“DSUK believe that taking part in adaptive snowsport has the power to transform a person’s relationship with not just their disability, but with all aspects of their lives. We believe that all people have the right to access the unique physical, mental, and social benefits of snowsport, regardless of disability, injury, or experience.”Disability Snowsport UK
What is Adaptive Skiing?
