Alex’s Adventures: Top 3 Adventures with Edge

Alex's Adventures - Top 3 Adventures with Edge

Hi, I’m Alex and I’ve been a client with Edge for two looooooooooong years. I was referred by my social worker for support with my autism and also with my mental health. Sometimes I felt isolated because of my autism, it was difficult to make friends as I felt not everyone was able to understand me because I was different.

I get to do lots of cool things with Edge, like going on trips with the staff and other clients! Over the last year, I’ve been on holiday to Aberfeldy and Badaguish in Aviemore where I’ve got to take part in loads of awesome activities.

I wish I could tell you about all the activities I’ve succeeded (and slightly less succeeded) at but there’s way too many to fit into this blog. So I’m just going to tell you about my favourites. Ready? Okay!

Bungee Jumping at Killiecrankie

Have you ever front flipped off a bridge? I HAVE! However, it was attached to a bungee cord! Imagine being on the edge of a bridge, surrounded by trees, water and sky. You look down and the ground looks like it’s miles away. You’re strapped in, you get closer to the edge. Heart pounding? Yup. Are palms sweaty? A little bit. Scared? Not a chance.

The countdown starts……….3, 2, 1

BUNGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Amazing experience? ABSOLUTELY!

Speedboat Ride at Loch Lomond

Ever wanted to feel like a celebrity? Well, you’re probably going to need a speedboat to help with that. Lucky for you, we have just that at Loch Lomond (which also happens to have amazing views and nesting birds if you’re interested). Sit back and enjoy a relaxing ride.

Only Joking!

You’re going to have to cling on for this ride since they can go as fast as 100 miles per hour. Jumping through the waves feels like you’re actually flying. One of the reasons I love being on the speed boat (apart from how fast I go) is that it’s an activity we can do as a group and the weather doesn’t matter since you’re going to get wet anyway!

Outdoor High Rope Course at Go Ape

Another activity I like is GoApe. Where you can literally Go Ape! It’s an outdoor high rope obstacle course (don’t worry, you’re harnessed in! No accidents here). There are ziplines through the trees and over water, climb up nets and rope swings! The best bit? You get to do it with your friends again and you can help each other. Teamwork makes the dream work!

The other best bit? They have different levels, so even if heights aren’t your thing, you can still enjoy doing this.

Mental Health Benefits

Let’s talk about Mental Health. Edge Adventure trips have given me and my friends at Edge a chance to destress and focus on ourselves. All the activities we do gives us the chance to meet other people who can relate to what we are going through when other people around us sometimes can’t. Knowing I have a trip planned helps distract me from bad thoughts, gives me something to look forward to and helps me cope. Being part of Edge Adventures has given me self-worth because after every trip I feel like I’ve achieved something. I still have steps to take, but I already feel more confident and less alone.

I’m looking forward to telling you more about my upcoming adventures with Edge and I hope to see you soon.

Thanks for reading!

See ya later,
