Respite Taster Holiday: Active holiday break in Fife

Fife, Scotland

Individually booked to suit

1-2 Nights

Edge Autism, Musselburgh

Fully accessible, 4 star rated holiday cottage

1 night away minimum

From: £995.00

Who is this for?

We wanted to bring a 1-2 night stay away for young people who may only need a short break, or have never been away from family or their home before. A ‘taster’ of what it feels like to be a bit more independent of carers and family and to spend an active and fun break away not to far from Edinburgh.

We can cater this break to suit individual needs and ‘special’ interests, just ask.

Where will I be staying?

‘The Rings’, a fully accessible, 4 star rated holiday cottage.

The price given includes bed linen, towels and toiletries. No hidden extras. The kitchens are well stocked with dishes and large pots & slow cooker/s for groups. There is tinfoil, cling film, fairy liquid, cloths, pan scourer, dishwasher tabs. Please bring your own tea towel and oven gloves.

All the bedrooms can be configured as single twins or super King double and are all en-suite.

What are the benefits of Respite?

Most parents feel guilty taking time away from their children, but respite care is important because it provides a valuable way to regroup and rejuvenate your spirit and important relationships. You cannot effectively care for someone (with or without autism) if your own needs are not being met. These needs are different for everyone, but they may include going to the doctor or running errands, getting some alone time, or having the chance to spend some quality time with your significant other or friends. No matter what you need the time off for, you will benefit from your ability to take a physical and mental break from caregiving, even if it’s only one or two nights.

Many parents have trouble asking for and accepting help, because they feel like they shouldn’t need it (and a variety of other reasons). But everyone needs a break from time to time, autism parents included. We’re only human, after all. We all need to get away from our lives once in a while, and that doesn’t mean you love your child any less. Respite care, therefore, isn’t about “giving up,” it’s a time for “fueling up.” A study on the subject found that each hour of respite care received has a positive effect on parents’ stress levels.

What does it cost?

This is a very difficult question to answer as we cost individually. All ‘Respite Taster Holidays’ are costed on an individual basis due to number of nights required, individual needs, level of staffing and choice of activity.

The starting cost for 2-nights/3 days away, which does NOT take into account cost of activities and is based on a minimum 1:1 staff/client ratio.

All breaks start from **£995.00 (Accommodation, Travel, 24/7 staffing, Meals are all included in this cost)

** This price is based on ONE night away with a 1:1 staff ratio
